Terms of Service
The deal, in plain language.
Effective July 11, 2026
These terms cover using Crate Notes. We’ve kept them short and readable. They work alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Crate Notes ("Crate", "the Service"), operated at notes.trycrate.net. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Your account
You must provide accurate information and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (and at least 13). Keep your login credentials secure; you are responsible for maintaining their confidentiality.
3. Your content
You retain all ownership of the notes, files, and other content you create ("Your Content"). You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the Service — to store, process, display, and back up Your Content, and to transmit it as you direct (for example, through share links or workspaces). We do not claim ownership of Your Content and we do not use it to train AI models.
You are responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to it. Do not upload content that is illegal, infringing, or that you do not have the right to store.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use the Service to break the law, infringe others’ rights, distribute malware, send spam, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users’ data. Do not abuse automated features (including AI and API access) in ways that place an unreasonable load on the Service or circumvent rate limits. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
5. Plans and billing
Individual use of Crate Notes is free. Paid team workspaces, when available, are billed per seat as described at sign-up. Fees for paid plans are billed in advance and are non-refundable except where required by law. We may change pricing with reasonable notice; changes do not apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
6. Sharing and collaboration
Share links and workspace access are controlled by you. Anyone you give access to can view (and, depending on the role, comment on or edit) the shared content. You are responsible for who you share with. Person-locked links restrict access to a specific signed-in email; password and expiry options add further control.
7. AI features
AI features are provided on a best-effort basis and can be inaccurate. Review AI output before relying on it. AI actions send the relevant text to our AI provider to produce a result, as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for how you use AI-generated content.
8. Availability
We work to keep the Service reliable but provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages; to the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or, if you use the Service for free, a nominal amount).
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms. On deletion, Your Content is removed from our systems as described in the Privacy Policy; export anything you want to keep first.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date; continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
